what's so special about this room?

honestly, i don't think i'd ever leave. i take a bath every night, and my situation is NO where near as chic, lush and luxurious as this. let's figure out how designer ana donohue made this one such a doozy.
1: that wallpaper - it's like being in a tropical jungle. and when you have funny angles, soffits or cut outs, wallpaper them as well, and they'll disappear. you can find something similar here
2: dark and moody custom roman shades just luxuriously piled up. that stripe down the center is working all kinds of magic
3: major statement abstract art. find a similar piece here. it doesn't need to be too precious hanging over the tub, but it does need to make you happy.
4: keep the tropical theme going with a steam loving low light plant like a large palm - and hey, it's easy to water! slosh a little bathwater on him upon exit.
5: what a smart way to give a traditional piece like this claw foot tub a little edge - if you're scared to commit to paint, try this chevron trick with tape.
6: a substantial bone accent stool makes the perfect perch for a bath time drink and a book. madegoods sells a fabulous one to the trade for about a zillion dollars, or you could try to DIY this one with a less expensive white stool and some black paint.
7: an upholstered chair in the bathroom is the ultimate baller move. a place to toss your items as you disrobe, or entertain a guest while you're soaking.
8: the bright white subway tile keeps the room reflective, crisp and just bright enough to feel lively. it's the perfect balance to the darker, moodier elements in the room.

my luck, upon exiting the tub, I'd trip on the giant ball sitting on floor, hit my head on the substantial bone accent stool and be found days later.
ReplyDeleteAt least I'd have great wallpaper to look at while waiting for the ambulance...
LOVE your breakdown of this bathroom. more of this please!
ReplyDeleteThis bathroom is insane, I hope they wallpapered the ceiling! It's amazing what "non-traditional bathroom accessories" can do!
ReplyDeleteI love how moody this space is! That lucite lantern is everything.
ReplyDeleteomg. i love the wallpaper. i love it!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a total oasis, and I love how dark it is (weirdly enough). I think I could probably spend all day in here!

I would never have thought of painting the bathtub! This would work with all kinds of stencils.

gorgeous! I take a bubble tub every night and think my bathroom is the nicest room in my house! but it pales in comparison to this funky one
ReplyDeleteI feel like I've been in this room. Is this from the Boston JL show house? I'm in love with the wallpaper and painting. If this is from the JL house I think I have the artist's info.
ReplyDeleteWHERE is this picture from? I need to know the magazine, book, or whatever so I can subscribe/purchase immediately.
ReplyDeleteShe managed to make it sexy, tropical, lush and homey. Stunning!
ReplyDeletei think there's a cowhide on the floor as well. bonus baller points. i wish i had room for a big chair. bc i would totally do it. have the tub and have been considering some tape action for a while now.
ReplyDeleteand thanks for the link luv.
can we please remove the wooden ball and all the stagey bits...i.e. urns, ball, weird glass coupe thing and the homegoods looking green vase? great. now it's perfect.
The bathroom was even prettier in person! It was one of my favorite rooms in the showhouse this year! You should see what she did with the existing sink plumbing that she had to work with! Oh wait, you can see a tiny part of it in that photo- she painted it GOLD! Genius and something I'm doing in all apartments from now on!
ReplyDeleteYou should come up next year for the showhouse- its always so much fun!
PS- no joke the security word I have to type below is 'cockage' I swear I get the weirdest words!
is that a wallpaper or paint?
ReplyDeletebtw nice art
Gorgeous! There's a special place in my heart for this bathroom - it reminds me of the one at my Nana's house when I was growing up. My mom painted a gorgeous jungle-y, leafy, pattern on the wall very near to this wallpaper. It made something as mundane as using the bathroom super chic and sort of exciting!
ReplyDeleteI love how that bathroom is every bit as much of a room as any living room.
ReplyDeleteAww... what a lovely place... *...*
