i got 99 ideas and pinterest's got none

for whatever reason, pinterest has done me wrong.  i can't see my old pins.  and that's a big deal.  i use pinterest to catalog everything i want to try, what i want to wear, what i want to be when i grow up,  what i want for dinner, where i want to go...  i reference my pins a lot - and i usually make my wants happen.  but alas!  i can only go back about 500 pins in, and pinterest isn't answering my frantic emails, so now my desktop looks like my brain exploded on it.  there are 64992g4 images, and here are just a few that i'm digging on.

ah yes, i will make a console out of dogs.  and pineapples.  and seahorses.  and indian chiefs.  not even kidding.  check back in a few weeks.  supplies have been purchased.


why i am not making more laundry rooms look like this?  apologies, i'll start.


already doing this at my house, but remember to continue.  and encourage everyone else too.

reporting live from vegas

friends, i am coming to you poolside at the aria hotel in vegas.  i arrived yesterday, and felt fairly overwhelmed worrying i had been redirected to disneyland, and then concerned that vegas appears to be in the middle of the desert.  i overcame these obstacles, and am settling in just fine. 

i'm here to scope out the gift market, and to speak on a panel monday about trends, tastemakers, and gaggaggag the retail christmas season.

i'm traveling solo, which can be an odd thing, unless you embrace it by taking 3 baths a day in your huge tub, trying to look mysterious while you dine alone, and sleeping sideways in a king bed.  the trick to traveling alone is to always look contemplative.  how can she be lonely when she looks so ... thoughtful?  see.

the pool scene is real.  meaning, it's happening.  something is happening here.  there are girls in all sort of states of undress, but they pile on the accessories.  tiny tiny bathing suits with huge platform wedges, hats, sparkly bits, there's some sort of collar thing over there, there's a feathered scarf? - it's all a bit... much.  everyone seems to think they are some kardashian cousin.  there's no shame.  i sit shaded and kaftaned while prancer and her friends over there are (fat)rolling in the deep.  i will refrain from further judgement and enjoy my $20 drink that is delicious and full of berries and basil.

i will, however, judge the trends for the coming fall and christmas season, and report back.  wish me luck.

i'm so excited to share with you guys a styling project i worked on here in raleigh with a fantastic furbish client.  dare called me in to help when she was getting ready to make the move from her bachelorette condo to a new home with her new husband and puppy.  i was excited to help - dare has fabulous taste.  she already had collected so many great statement pieces of furniture, gorgeous accessories, artwork and books -- i was just there to help with some bigger picture things.  she had most of the great ideas for the new house, i just agreed and helped her execute them.  we worked together over several months to find new pieces to make the house a home - from nightstands to dining chairs, mirrors, artwork and fabrics; i was just there to augment her already chic sensibilities.  for the shoot, we had some fun bringing over some items from the store to style, but dare deserves all of the credit for bones of this great home.  enjoy!

we added a hippo basket to our inventory, but izzie comandeered it as a hua (pronounced HOO-UH) depository.


so we added that to my office.
