fashion for the rest of us, and shopping

By 4/30/2012
i'll leave the real fashion blogging to the fashionistas, because lord knows they do it better than i ever could, but i do have to share a pretty phenomenal purchase i made today at ann taylor.  first, i had no idea to even go there (again, i know yal knew-- but i am so fashion-challenged) until keila alerted me of these super chic flats, which i've been sorely in need of.
look!  bought!  today - on sale in store for only $54, in my size!  they also make a fantastic royal blue which keila got.

i also got this number on major sale too - it's a little more neon in person.  i know - two neon purchases, slow down ke$ha, but i hadn't made any yet, so i think i'm still within quota.

it was a good day - we were at the beach this weekend, and today while brian tinkered, i went old school shopping.  like hide the bags in the trunk shopping.  it was marvelous.  it's funny - before i started furbish and worked all the time, i used to 'go shopping' on the weekends, but i haven't done it in forever.  i forgot how magical wondering around in shops and picking out something you don't need one bit and buying it can be!  case in point, i decided today to start collecting spongeware.
it seems like if it's done sparingly (more splatter, less dabbing), it's not too country. i love it.  we happened into a really great antique tortoise-shell cabinet at the shop,

and i've got plans to adopt it for a while.  i think my new collection will be a perfect start to filling it.

i also got one of these

goooo tell it on the mountain!

when i saw this bedroom i called him immediately and yelled TELL ME WHERE YOU GOT THESE ITEMS.  it's good.  only nick olsen would put that wisteria bench with a madeline weinrib rug and that crazy screen.  teach ME how to dougie.

here's a snippet from our photoshoot i mentioned we wrapped up last week.

here's what it took to get us through it.

i can't get my mind off of red, whites and blues.  i told you i was feeling oddly patriotic in my decorative parts.  this sofa from anna spiros' home does the trick.

speaking of colors that don't bleed, here's a pic of the new litter at furbish - maggie and my new assistant jessica, inadvertently matching

here's the older and doufier crowd.

in breaking news, i'm teaming up w/ a big nationwide retailer for some major makeover action.  here's a snippet of how i'll roll with that.

for your retail pleasure, we'll have these new pendants available for pre-order from furbish next week in PINK and ORANGE!

a couple of mexican serape headboards wrapped up and ready to go to their new beachhouse.

started two new wingbacks in this ikat with this wide trim running down the center.  yes.

a pretty moment from the lily pulitzer showroom in high point.  danika - i want to see you try this next! their showroom was full of fantastic DIY paint ideas like this, and a huge handpainted watercolor plaid.

hur's a painting we installed at a client's this week.  major wow.

here's paris.  major cow.

my fave moment du jour at furbish - a dining bench upholstered in a trina turk indoor/outdoor fern print, piped in coral, draped with a vintage suzani, and finished off with ikat and greek key.  enough to make a trend-hater's head explode.  bam!

i'm equally obessing over lulu dk's new fabric and trims for schumacher.  we have a sofa coming next week in one of them, and this one is just sitting on my desk, waiting for some magic to happen.

and finally, here's a catchy tune i'm enjoying this friday night as i wrap this up and go back to trying to figure out where all of our socks are.  we have an abandonment issue w/ the laundry.

just a note that mother's day is two weeks away, and i think we might have some goodies that mom's would like.  do your mom a solid and send her a surprise from furbish.  spend $25, and we'll include a special gift if you use checkout code yourmom.

things you don't have to go to high point to enjoy

By 4/26/2012
with all of the high point talk, i know some of you are itching for some pretty things that you don't have to wear a badge to be able to enjoy.  how about these picks?

the furbish team and i just got back from highpoint, where i was beyond honored to be selected as one of their 8 style spotters this year.  basically, i got to go around market, find things that made me squeal and put my face on them.  couldn't have been happier.  to see all of my picks, check out this pinterest board.

it's a wrap!

the best thing about photoshoots are the leftover flowers (and cupcakes).
this guy is hanging on my dining room table - and the store got roses.
we wrapped a big shoot yesterday that you'll be seeing in may - we are SOOOO excited to share with yal.   we knew we had nailed it when maggie, our newest employee walked around the client's house yelling REPIN!!!

holy new stuff

my choices at home these days are actually a little more restrained than you'd think, considering furbish is mostly unicorns humping rainbows. don't get me wrong. i love color, and mixing patterns at home, but these days my big choices have to be practical and made with the most important factor in mind: my sanity. to be sane, i need clean. and i have come to realize to be clean, i can't have white. white < brian meares. meaning he has the power to conquer anything white and make it dirty. so in my next home, my cabinets will be gray. gray will not show finger prints. grease. car oil. potting soil. caulk. mud. or epoxy. believe it or not, brian meares finds a way to get into these things every. single. day. let me show you what i envision: 109282728427414911_EsmmWBAt_f
