this was sitting on the rail when i got to the shop this morning.
he was huge. when i tried to get a better angle, he flew at me and i screamed like a fool.
We just had "attack of the killer cicada's" here in Tennessee this summer. You'd think you'd get used to seeing them and although my kids played with them while they were everywhere, their scream and darty flying freak me out! My youngest son said they were "cute".
definitely a cicada (like everyone else noted). here's a truly terrifying image of one molting http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/62/Cicada_molting_animated-2.gif/170px-Cicada_molting_animated-2.gif
This exact same thing happened to me this morning. One came out of the bushes and totally shocked me sending me screaming and then making my poor children cry too!!!
omg that is ugly. but yet intriguing. please tell us how big that was!! right now it looks fist sized but that can't be... right? Right? RIGHT? Nightmares tonight...
Ugh! We had cicadas when I was a kid in New York. I guess they only hatch every so many years. Totally scared the crap out of me and would always land in my hair. Made me the bug-o phobe I am today. Thanks for the memories, haven't seen one in Boston yet.
HAHAHAHA. Interesting form though. A silhouette drawing needs to be made from this picture -- Furbish logoooo!!!! Or at the very least, t shirts or greeting cards that say "I screamed like a fool."
Very nice for men and women and incredibly useful far too. I am just incredibly happy you placed that below. click If only I can develop a man's site that appears as well as yours.

one of those dive-bombed me the other day! yikes.
cicadas are so revolting. we see them flying around at dusk. i much prefer seeing the bats swarm around.
love cicadas. so interesting. have you ever seen one come out of its shell. totally mezmerizing. and check out their super cool wings.
cicada! i actually really like the loud cicada noise in the summertime. they can be jerks to plant life, though.

Our son is an entomologist-wanna-be and if we lived closer he would be

I had one on my front door the other night. I didn't see it until it flew at my face. I screamed, too. I literally thought I was dying.
