i hope you don't feel like i'm constantly bombarding you with product updates for the store -- i've been adding a lot of new things this year, and there's still more to come. it's important to me to constantly be on the lookout for the one thing that's missing.

stay with me here...
the other day, i was trying to describe for a friend what it was about domino magazine that was so special. everytime i open the pages of any issue, i can't sit still for more than 5 minutes because i'm up, inspired, moving things around, restyling, fluffing and running out to grab something i saw in the mag i needed. i think it's this connection on such a personal level - a pull that you can't fight to get up and do something to make your surroundings better -that was so fantastic about domino. it showed us high, and low and everywhere in between and in each issue we could find something to connect with. once that connection was made, our wheels would start turning and we'd be engaged in not only reading a magazine, but in going a step further and trying to recreate what we saw, with our own personal twist.

humbly trying to follow in domino's path, my goal with furbish is to spur that same excitement in you. i want each item i offer to have a fabulous can't-live-without quality that genuinely makes you feel happier just by planning where it will go in your home. i want to provide those special touches on a coffee table, or your guest bed, or the built-in, or for your best friends birthday present that make you step back, and say YES. THAT'S RIGHT ON.  while domino may have been our guide to living with style, i'd like to be your purveyor of special items that enable you to bring that same style into your home.

so i'm going to keep throwing items i deem fantastic and style-enhancing at you with hopes they will help you have fun decorating your home. i'm going to keep scouring gift shows, the internet and ebay, flea markets and auctions for lust-worthy objects, and when i can't find exactly what i'm looking for, i'll make it myself.

working with clients in their homes for the past year, i've been able to really hone in on what must-have accessories make a home look stylish and happy, and i've made it my goal to cultivate a selection of high style neccesities for you to shop from.

we have so many exciting things planned for this year. in a few weeks we'll launch our brand new custom pillow and shower curtain line that i think you'll be super pumped about. more accessories are rolling in by the day, and we've always got our eye on what's hot for jewels and sparkly bits.  so head over and take a look around if you haven't lately.  and i'd be so happy if you'd tell a friend or two who may not know about furbish to go check it out.  thanks young people.  i owe you one.

  4. Love the manifesto. Your passion inspires and invokes passion in others. (Also - those Mr. and Mrs. tumblers have made my life. They are the perfect addition to our bar ware, and we keep them front and center at all times. Thank you so much!!!)

  5. I loved domino because it was really the first time that I opened the pages of a magazine and saw something that was so beautiful but so lived in as well. It was like coming home. I love the updates, keep them coming! I just sent a friends who lives in NC to the store and she raved about it!

  6. Glad to know I was not the only one to get up off the couch and start moving things around as I read Domino! My husband has watched me for years in amazement as I moved things here and there!

Posting your shop items is just fine with me. The trays I purchased from you for my daughter's first apt. in NYC give her living room style and panache. She was thrilled when she opened the box!

  11. well said, jamie! i miss domino so much...and don't understand why they can't bring it back in some form. it opened my eyes to possibilities in my home, that it doesn't have to look like a cookie-cutter, that I can infuse my own style!

your store, inventory, and taste conjure similar feelings and so inspiring!!

  15. You just made me bring out my Domino book and be sad about their folding all over again. I keep hoping against hope that Conde Nast will realize how stupid they were and relaunch it somehow... *tear

  16. I always love the updates... I can't make it to every website every day or week - so the shops that post to their blogs likely get my attention!

Keep on keeping on. You rock.

  18. You always inspire me. The blog. The store. The decorating services. My house wouldn't be as livable without your touch. I always loved Domino, but never had the vision to translate what I like in a magazine into what will work with my taste/budget/home. Most things I wouldn't think of myself or even know they exist. The things I've managed to cobble together by myself were the direct result of your tutelage.

My husband is changed man because of you. He has a newfound appreciation for pillows, curtains, and tschotskes. He never understands individual things, upon arrival, but now he can see the big picture.

People and love make a house a home, but things make it warm, appreciated, and inviting. As the room-to-room transformation trudges along, he's actually excited. A few friends say his dude card has been revoked for actually uttering the sentence..."curtains really do make a room."

    Keep it coming bitch.

  19. oh. and when i saw manifesto as the title, i wasn't sure if we were going to have to talk you out of a little cabin in the woods, mizz kazinski.

was happy to see the words were of a sane person.

  21. Its so nice to see in someone's else's words how I felt when I would read Domino, it would be like a creative high after I would finish reading it. I honestly feel the same way when I come over to your blog and read your posts. Don't ever apologize for what you're doing because it's working for you!

  23. "my goal with furbish is to spur that same excitement in you."

    done.

  24. I actually find your "now available at Furbish" posts to be the least inspiring. I like to read about what you have done, what you hope to do, see photos of complete rooms you have worked on, rather than look at item after item you sell in the store. I can (and do) browse your online store to see all of that. I wish you would still talk about your sources and how you do things, but you have become protective about openly sourcing things and only say "e=mail me and my store!" Don't get me wrong, I understand why you are protective, but it takes the fun out of the blog. Now it is just an advertising vehicle. Domino was the shit because it would tell me what that fabric's name was, what that paint color was.

  25. And *that* my friend is why we all worship, er, I mean love you! Do you really think I can come up with stylish stuff all by myself? Negatory. So thanks for all the inspiration and fabulous updates...I know I'm lusting after more than one item at Furbish!
