do tell...

alright young people, be frank with me.  i'll be jamie.

do you really want a furbish online store? are you just asking b/c you feel bad for me that i possibly had a quarter life crisis and left the job of $ and despair to open a store and you're thinking, "bless her heart, i'll buy a pillow from her so she can buy more beans and rice for dinner".

(which is fine, i'm not questioning motive for buying, just if you plan to)

but for realz. selling online is a big endeavor. i want to know what you want to buy -- pillows? lamps? tiny delights? fabric? signed photos of rowdy? books?

is there a price point you think i should focus on?

do you even shop online? would you for me? we go way back, you & me.

would you pay to have furniture shipped? if a smokinghot upholstered bird ottoman was $450, and another $100 to ship to you, would you consider it?

i'm all ears - and i'd appreciate any feedback!

Please please please open an online store! I've been reading your blog for a while and am always in despair when you post something lovely from your store and I have no way to access it. And yes, I would pay $100 for shipping for that $450 ottoman.

Kristen said...

I agree...Please put your stuff online. I'm always checking to see if you've put stuff up. I love your furniture and I would be willing to pay shipping.

Anonymous said...

Yes, yes, and yes. I'd pay that amount and then some to get my hands on some of your pieces!

Erin said...

Yes!! I would buy lamps from you in a heartbeat! Please start an online store!!!

Julia said...

I'd be interested in buying fabric and smaller items from you - I don't have the budget for shipping larger pieces. Thanks for considering it! I'm really looking forward to an online source for well-curated decorator fabrics!

Erica said...

Paying for a big furniture shipment is not in the cards for me, but I would definitely buy your smaller items. I would mainly LOVE to buy your pillows.

The Social Secretary said...

Yep, I'm in. For sure pillows and tiny delights. And, if the price was right, absolutely on furniture. Do it!

Cameron said...

Yeppers. Do it.

Paloma {La Dolce Vita} said...

Absolutely! Logistically, it may be easier to focus on smaller items rather than furniture, but I would gladly pay shipping fees for something I loved.

Katherine said...

Yes please. I would love to see smaller items and pillows and such. Personally, I might not buy furniture online or larger items because a) I like to see them in person and b) if it didn't end up working it would be a pain to return. I would though love it if you would open an online shop!!

Jenn said...

PLEASE open an online store! I love your blog and wish you weren't so far away from me! I would have happily bought that ottoman you posted months ago with Rowdy sitting on it!

hillary said...

Definitely interested in smaller housewares but I also buy furniture online and am used to normal shipping surcharges for large items (seems like anywhere from $25 to $150 is pretty standard depending on the size and price of the item).

vidalia said...

I am constantly shopping online. I have kids and cannot get away to do the "real" shopping with two boys. I love being able to see close-ups of fabric. Different views. I will pay for quality. For big ticket items that are costly to ship, could you hook up with (I think its greyhound) to "bus" furniture. I know there are options out there that are cheaper. Check ebay maybe. If I am saving $100 for an armchair that I love but have to pay $100 for shipping, I might as well go buy the local one. Good luck. You're living my dream

If you don't, I'm going to have to send my Cary-based mother over to your shop every time you mention something wonderful that I might want. And then she'll spend all day in your store taking pictures and SMSing them to me. My mother is super lovely. But she often comes with my grandmother, who isn't. Save yourself and open an online store so you aren't attacked by my family while I'm living out in Arizona, reading your blog, and dreaming about beautiful things.

Thank you :)

I would certainly be interested in buying the furniture from your shop. I have bought furniture on Ebay before and the experience was pretty smooth sailing, so I would do it again, especially if I loved the piece so much.

Kelly@TearingUpHouses said...

I would very much consider purchasing from an online store from you. I've wondered why you had not offered it in the past. You seem to be in touch with relative price points and concerns about shipping, so my advice would be to stick with what YOU think is appropriate. Personally, I'd probably be willing to pay less than you're guessing for small items, and more than your guessing for big items. As of right now, I'm in the market for dining room chairs, tables, hard wired lamps, bookcases, rugs, and hardware. Bring it on!

I would TOTALLY buy your stuff online! I think if the majority was pillows, fabrics, smaller pieces around $100 and under you would do well. But I love your furniture way too much to not ask to have it online! Honestly, each piece is so interesting and individual I think people will be willing to dish out the money for shipping etc. Online store- YES PLESE!

Jennifer said...

I would be more than happy to buy from you, especially if I'm shopping online anyway (which is honestly, only really some of the time, I like a bricks-and-mortar store!). Maybe you could test the waters with a few furniture piece? I imagine folks will buy them, but will it be worth the effort to you if you can sell them in-store?

PNew said...

Yes. I look at your site weekly to see when the online store will be up! I love your stuff and would die for some pillows, lamps, tchotchkes, maybe even some furniture!? Pretty pleas!

Anonymous said...

okay. I'll be Frank. Super Frank.

I LOVE your stuff. i love your style.

But the economy for me/us still stinks BIG TIME and I have not bought ANYTHING in forever, because, pillows, etc. seems to START at 100+ bucks. And I can't justify spending that. But I could do $20-$50ish all day long. :)

things I'd like to see online:

* your wordy prints
* pillows
* trays (like the snake one)
* the Adler-esque type things
* bowls
* fun stuff that not everyone else has
* fabric

kelly said...

Yes please! I would totally be willing to pay shipping for bigger pieces, but I think you could do really well with lamps, pillows, bedding, accessories, etc.

Anonymous said...

forgot to add...

For me it doesn't even have to be a fancy site. Jenny @ Little green Notebook puts pics on her sidebar of fabric. You could even do something like that. HOWEVER it does bug me a bit to have to email for rates. I'd like to see the price right there so I know whether its even worth it. The back and forth is annoying.

Sonchia said...

Please open an online store! I would go for mainly smaller items though: pillows, lamps, artwork, tabletop items, etc. I live in Telluride and the pickings are slim - unless you like oak & antlers. So - thumbs up on the idea.

EJR said...

Please open an online store! I am a huge online shopper, I hardly ever buy anything in stores. I would buy everything from furniture to knick knacks.

Anonymous said...

also, will you tell me about that rice & beans? Is that avocado and cilantro with it? or what? Do a mini recipe please. looks super yummy

Jamie,

When you had your Furbish Studio sale a couple years ago I drove a couple hours to come. I have loved everything I got and have been so sorry I didn't leave with more Meares treasures. Please. For all of us out here. Let us have the pillows!

As someone who helps run a company's online store (take that with whatever weight you want :) ) here are my thoughts:

-start with lower priced items and things that are hard to find elsewhere
-don't bother with books, Amazon and other large online super-stores sell them at a lower rate than you would be able to make a profit from
-one of a kind pieces are a lot of work to sell online. you'll have to either NOT sell them in the store while they're listed online, or you'll have to take inventory of what's sold in store and onlin every day and make sure that it's not still listed online, etc. It's doable, but you def. need to work out a system (in my experience, keeping track in your head works for about two weeks before things devolve into chaos)
-look into different methods of shipping. you might be shocked at how different the rates can be for USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.

as for price point, I'd start with the under $100s and add pricier things once you get an idea of how busy an online store will be.

for furniture shipping, people will pay for what they truly want. as long as it's unique and good quality, i think furniture would sell alright.

and yes, i shop online and i definitely would shop from you. maybe not that $450 ottoman right now, but as soon as i win the lottery i'm coming to visit :)

bennettwilliams said...

Yes! And I would pay shipping. Cause I'm going to end up paying shipping to Pottery Barn or C&B or whoever if I buy something online, which I do. In fact, I just {frustratingly} paid $25 s&h + 9.9% sales tax to get a stupid couch cover. And I would prefer to buy to-the-trade fabric stuff from you online rather than go into a snooty designer shop.

Corinna White Charlton said...

i like avoiding sales tax. i kind of hate paying shipping over $5. $20 is my magical price point. I'm 24 a student and my husband is unemployed, if that gives any reasons. but little new things with big impact are worth a lot: i.e., a snazzy set of pillows for the bed or one for the wingback; rug; lamp. i almost always buy things exclusively if they are on sale {that could be a marketing strategy perhaps?}. i like to think i'm getting a great deal.
and it seems that the bloggers who open etsy shops with all kinds of random shiz do really great. even if its a pity purchase, a 100 pity purchases can really add up!
oh ps, a cute detail in packaging is almost a guarantee for a repeat purchaser.

Michelle said...

Yes, please! I don't know that I would be able to buy the larges pieces, but I would love to buy some pillows and fabric!! That would be amazing!

Jessica Davis said...

yes! I think if you are in the right price point then for sure. I would start with the small easy to ship stuff like pillows, accessories etc, but stuff that you can't find elsewhere online. And I would totally buy the bird ottoman for $450 plus $100 shipping

sally said...

i say yes, esp to items $50 and under. would love to see your pillows and other small items. i personally don't think i would buy furniture online but yours is so amazing! maybe you can ease into it. i definitely think it will be worth your while!

hell yes! i'm dying for it here. I would appreciate some moderate price points on pillows, home decor, etc. If it was priced within my budget for items I would happily pay shipping.

Don't leave us hanging!

Jeannine @ Small and Chic said...

I think it'd be great to see some of the smaller items for sale online.

As someone who is kind-of, sort-of in the region, I'd love to see what larger pieces are in the store in case I'm going to be down your way and can convince the boyfriend to stop. :)

Aubree said...

Okay...so this is my very first comment to leave on this blog and this is only because I'm lazy & I normally check it from my google reader...anywho...yes...I would most definitely buy from your online store if you had one. Primarily smaller items like lamps & pillows & such. You have incredible taste...share the love:).

Maggie Rose said...

I would definitely be interested in pillows, lamps (minus shades may be cheaper shipping), decorative things. If I was feeling flush I may occasionally look at smaller pieces of furniture (like others said, I'd likely order from PB or C&B and have no problem paying shipping). Too bad I like your giant items best. Furniture isn't in my budget now, but $100 or under fun splurges are more or less doable. And I do the majority of my shopping online.

The Famous Home said...

I would definately be interested, I live in NS Canada so I'm use to paying alot for shipping and am quite willing to do so for the right piece. Even large furniture, I have to qualms driving into Maine to pick something up at the bus station. Selection here is slim so it's normal for me to shop mostly online. I've been checking periodicly to see if you had opened up online!

Victoria said...

I agree with everyone else! I am always on the hunt for furnishings online...I often feel like it is way easier to find exactly what I'm looking for online than going from store to store to store and coming home empty handed.

As far as the focus of the store, small items would be of more interest to me, as I like to change out accessories (lamps, pillows, objets d'art, etc) to update my spaces.

For shipping -- the thing is, ALL online retailers charge hefty shipping prices, plus tax. I think a lot of people would rather support talented small business owners!!

Wege said...

YES, PLEASE.
But only if you plan to ship to New Zealand, otherwise its an unfair advantage to everyone else.

PLLLLEAAASSEEEE open an online store! Absolutley. I promise you it will be a huge market for you. Robin Popowich said...

Robin from Calgary, Alberta Canada says YES! But you must ship to CANADA!

Sarah said...

Yes, please! I am always wishing I had a store like yours to browse. I live in New Mexico, where it is difficult to get decent fabric, so it would be nice to have an online source vetted by someone whose style I know I like. Not sure if I would be able to spring for shipping on big stuff, but I would definitely be interested in small stuff and fabric.

Jamie -- I guess I should re-think my whole store and start selling lamps and [different] pillows.
If I could get half of your commenters to buy from my online store, I'd be golden.
I thought it would take off like wildfire, but so far, honestly -- not so much.
(And I'm offering free shipping right now!) Any thoughts?
I'm sort of afraid to post the question -- what do people think of my online store....

Yes, please! That way all of us not lucky enough to live within driving distance can still shop! Your store has the most amazing items! I'm dying for you to go online!

Kate said...

Yes! I would love to buy fabric and pillows for sure. And I would definitely pay shipping for a great piece of furniture. I love shopping online, so if I bought something from Crate & Barrel or Pottery Barn I'd have to pay shipping any way, but if I bought something from Furbish it wouldn't be something everyone else has.

OK I'm going to go ahead and tell you that about 150% of the things you post from the store on your blog are things I would consider buying. As a Southern transplant living in Boston (I'm originally from GA), I cannot visit your store. I am currently looking for an item to sit at the foot of my bed (hopefully a combo of seating and storage that doesn't look like it came from JC Penney) and a bedside table lamp. These are things I could DEF see myself purchasing from your site. Just sayin. Keep up the great work! I've told all my friends in the Durham/Raleigh/Chapel Hill area to visit the store!! xoxo

Anonymous said...

Why the F not? THAT is the real question.

Bailey@ peppermintbliss said...

In a word...Yes.
I frequently check the furbish website to see if you are yet selling goods online. I do almost all of my shopping online, and would most certainly buy from you. Pillows. Small goods. Fabrics. ABSOLUTELY furniture. Including ridonk shipping costs.
I promise. I have a feeling you are doing JUST fine in your new endeavor, I do not pity you in the slightest. Only myself who lives so far away from you and your delicious store.
That being said I am probably not the norm. Could you start small? Pillows etc? And maybe do furniture by request?

Jessie said...

Hi Jamie,

Long time lurker, first time poster...and YES, I'd happily shop at Furbish online. I LOVE your work and, if I were in the area, I'm sure that I'd be a regular in the store. Though I hate to pay shipping for "small" online purchases (clothes, little household items), I understand that furniture is different and really wouldn't mind paying for delivery. Good luck!!

For Every Bird a Nest said...

Well you have gotten tons of feedback- so I will just add to the pot. Obviously it's a yes. It's a lot of work but once you get a system down, it gets easier. I promise.

The only thing about online shopping is you don't get the true essence of the item when it is taken out of your store. I have been in your store several times and I love to see how you display things. It's what you do best! (actually I have no idea what you do best.. but you are great at it!) So.. my suggestion is to not just photograph the item, but also add a picture of it with complementary items/how you have utilized it/etc etc. Sounds time consuming.. yes. But you have an intern!! (I am sure she just directed a few ugly words my way.) Anyways.. you just have an amazing eye that can be quite helpful for others .. and a selling feature too!!

Anonymous said...

I am also going to be very honest. As much as I love your style and willing to support your business, my family's budget is a #1 concern for me, thus if I find a certain something cheaper some place else, I would not buy it from you. Will your Dwell studio bedding be cheaper than it is at Dwell?
I'm not sure what people are willing to pay at your B&M store but on-line we're used to search for a bargain + free or low shipping rates.

Books are much cheaper on Amazon, so I wouldn't even bother w/them.

On the other hand I would buy your unique and one of a kind furniture pieces, mirrors, lamps.

Anonymous said...

I reallyreally *want* to buy loads from you, but I'm on a serious budget so it would depend on the prices. Currently the pillow selection in my area is dismal and I'd loooove some of yours!

Realistically, I have to realize that fabulous pillows shipped from a small business are going to cost more than the dismal local pillows that I can barely afford now. So idk. :( I want to window shop if nothing else!

Risa West said...

do you have an etsy store??? that might be a good place to start... in addition to your website. just a thought

Kirsten Sue said...

DO IT!! I will buy everything. Well maybe not everything but I will buy something. I know what you mean. It is a big endeavor. Alice Lane wants to take their store online and it is SUCH a headache just thinking about it. But selling products online will give you the ability to sell to people all over the world.

Erika said...

Yes, yes, yes! Your shop looks so adorable an I see lots of things I'd love to buy. I probably wouldn't buy a large piece of furniture, but definitely smaller pieces like accent tables.

Anonymous said...

one more thing to add to the mix is the old addage:

Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.

There is a couple of pillow places around lady blogger land and they sell the EXACT SAME STUFF. Only one is reasonable (Fabricadabra) and the other is not (I will not mention their name).

Anonymous said...

I love your taste, and I would buy probably smaller goods rather than a larger piece. But, what I lose in size, I'd likely make up for in volume (errr... or something like that). In particular, I love your lamps and accessories. I would pay whatever the going rate is for shipping, I have no problem with that.

Bryant Park Designs said...

Yes! Please open that store - I do shop online, and am willing to pay that shipping for the right piece! Please please do it!

Anonymous said...

As a person that runs an online business that must ship everything. Here is what I know:
experiment with product selection- you would be surprised at what the winners will be. The stuff that works in the store probably won't be the same as what works online.
Shipping-wise- stick with unbreakables!
Always insure your packages
Fedex will give you the best rates- eventually.
Do yourself a favor and pick product that you can get more of! There is no disappointment like not be able to get more of the good stuff!

Margaret said...

yes, put it all online. for those of us in NYC the prices plus shipping still add up to a bargain. way better than ebay, which is all we've got other than serously overpriced junk/"vintage" shops here in the city.

Shannon @ Sit.Relax.Gossip. said...

The biggest highlight of my week has been the fact that my husband and I are moving to Wilmington this summer, and I'll be a mere hours away from Furbish. But the possibility of an online store makes me even happier. I tend to buy a lot of smaller stuff online (because I don't technically have a house to store it in) but I would be interested in buying furniture if I did have a house.

Erin said...

Jamie - I would definitely shop furbish online. I might buy an ottoman upholstered in the right fabric. I would most definitely buy lamps, pillows, rugs, prints, rowdy... :) as long as you keep turning up these amazing finds and it doesn't become the same old out of the box stuff (I don't think it will).

As long as we are talking hypothetical, I would also take an online class from you/love to virtually participate in the in-store classes.

Anonymous said...

I would definitely try it on Etsy first.

TurabianNights said...

YES YES YES!! I want your whole store in my house in California right now, shipping paid. I buy everything online, and I'd gladly add Furbish Online to my regular purveyors of internet-bought home merchandise, because I trust your taste and the quality of everything you sell.

I agree with the mob of people saying that lower price point is easier online - once I see a $90 pillow, I start looking for the X on my browser. $100 and below for a strong selection of smaller things, with most things below $60ish, would be a great place to start. Agree with whoever said "don't bother with books," Amazon wins every time.

HOWEVER I would gladly gladly buy furniture from you and pay $100 for shipping, because I literally cannot source stuff like this in my area, and that ottoman would cost $450 out here anyway. So I might be in the minority here, but I'd say list the furniture too. True, it's one-of-a-kind stuff, but depending on turnover in your bricks-and-mortar, it might not be a big pain to list.

Sooooo please open for summer so I can stock my house with amazing things from your store thaaaaaaaanks.

TurabianNights said...

And by $450, I meant $550. Cost of living ftw.

YES!!!! Please!

I would absolutely pay $100 to get a $450 piece shipped to me. I did it the other day on eBay, and didn't blink at all.

Jamie, I HEART your style and would love to get my grubby little hands on your stuff without having to harrass you over email (i.e. python tray).'

I think you have a ton of followers who absolutely live outside of your town. In fact I'd hazard to say you have a ton of potential customers on the West Coast and in larger cities because your style is so unique and fun.

I'm excited!

julia wheeler said...

please oh please sell online! pillows, prints, books, cute little things, things for rowdy and his furry friends (signed or unsigned!) i'd be more than likely to purchase things under $40... with shipping that's about $50 or so. i'd even consider furniture if it was irresistible but am more likely to splurge on the little stuff. do it!

Beth said...

Wow, I love that you got so many comments on this! That has to be super helpful. I so wish I could visit Furbish; it seems amazing. But to be totally honest, I don't know if I would shop online or not. I hate paying for shipping. I suppose it would depend on how reasonably items were priced. But you do amazing work, and it really is one of a kind -- so who knows. You have a following and it seems like a ton of people would be willing to shop online (and pay shipping) -- so it seems like it would be worth it to try!

An online store sounds absolutely fantastic! Maybe you could experiment with some of the easier to ship items, and phase in the larger items? I personally just can't pay shipping rates like that, but then, I'm only in VA and I keep meaning to drive down to check out your store in person! Good luck, and I can't wait to see what you decide to do!
PS I WOULD pay $100 in shipping for an autographed photo of Rowdy! ;o)

Absolutely, Yes....I am a designer, and I would buy your furniture for a client in a heartbeat (and pay for reasonable shipping).

You could even have pieces on your site that have yet to be upholstered (muslin or not) and sell those too. I would totally buy and customize with you or ship and have my upholsterer do it(betting your upholsterer is cheaper than mine anyway - geographically speaking).....

Put it all out there, girl!

When I shop online for home stuff, it's usually the smaller items - pillows, lamps, prints, decorative stuff, etc. Part of that has to do with not being able to see/touch larger items in person. I live in Atlanta though so if I was interested in something larger, I would probs just drive over to your store to buy it to avoid the shipping costs (which I should do anyway, btw). So, yes, I would DEF buy smaller items online. :)

Yes! I buy everything online. And I would happily pay $100 in shipping for a piece of furniture. Just make sure you describe things really well. I hate online stores that charge a lot of shipping and/or don't take returns and don't even provide dimensions for the stuff they sell.

Agree with all. I'm in LA, where things are expensive anyway, so with shipping on a big piece I'm prob getting a better deal. I mostly buy from ebay and pay shipping a lot.

RE: pillows. Make them out of to the trade/ special fabrics, 20" at least (more robust), and undercut those mofos who sell the same (trina turk peacock for example) for 150-200 online. Keep it 100 and under. That can give you profit, right? You can get that pillow made about 35 bucks wholesale. Sell it for 70-80.

And I'd but an ottoman or custom painted big piece and have it shipped.

I'd avoid selling too much online that is available elsewhere.

Good luck.

YES. To all of it, especially the pillows and fabric and smoking hot bird ottoman (with shipping).

yes, please!!!!!! You have fantastic taste! I would love to see items at a variety of prices.

Holly said...

YES!! I would say fabric and pillows, just because it's the focus for me in my house right now, but really everything you do is so beautiful, anything would be amazing.

Can we just buy Rowdy? He's precious!

I second the customizing comment. You definately have an eye for the 'trash to treasure'. Perhaps post the piece untransformed for a week or two and see if you have any bites, and if not, go ahead and do what you want with it for your store.

I figure it'll take you that week or two to make up your mind anyway. That allows you to offer a special service no-one else has and would be a real incentive for people to buy those larger priced items. I think you would have more takers if customers could work with you to pick fabrics or colors that work with their home. Especially those in bigger cities where services are more expensive or people just don't have the room for projects.

yes! would love to be able to buy from your site. and would love the option to pick-up or have it shipped.

I would be most inclined to buy small things- any single purchases over $40 would require me to see the object in person first. I would probably spend well over $40 over time, though!

I love your taste, and I would love to see a shop!

Alexis said...

Yes!! I have been waiting for your online store to open! I would buy the smaller things online like pillows and lamps, but I think if you put that out there you might as well put furniture!

Yes!! I am in for all sorts and sizes of delights.

I live in Ohio and would definitely buy from you.

- fabrics
- small tchotchkes -- especially if they were *embellished* by you
- art
- pillows
- furniture + shipping if the item was right for me!

hi jamie

i am based in london and adore your stuff! right now i am going crazy trying to track down a ceramic table lamp the way you feature them and cannot find them for love or money in the UK. so i would totally buy your stuff and pay for shipping. generally i would buy knick knacks, rugs and pillows online.
please go online!!!!

rachel said...

i do buy home items online, but generally not the really big stuff. if it can fit into a 3 ft square box and it's less than $400 i'm totally buying it.

please, please open an online store. you will be improving the world.

Katie said...

I don't buy anything online that costs more than $100.

I like to see expensive or large stuff in person.

But I would totally buy lamps and fabric! I can't possibly buy another pillow or my husband's head will explode.

bamagirl3525 said...

Yes, please! Smaller housewares like pillows, lamps, tabletop, and gifts would be awesome!

yes, yes, yes!!!!

Another long-time lurker! If I lived nearby, I'd be in your store all the time. Often I've seen something in one of your pics that I would definitely consider buying* if you had an online store.

*I have no idea of your pricing, so maybe actually seeing the cost would make me clutch my heart and stagger backward - but I'm at least open to the idea!

OK, I'm going to be real with ya (and I don't know if someone has already said this or not, since 123 comments is way too much to read) - while I would delight in perusing your online store, shipping all that stuff is going to be a pain for you. Plus, it's going to take up valuable storage space (the shipping boxes have to go somewhere!). And, are you going to take returns? Are you going to pay return shipping? Chica, there's a lot to think about.

Plus, with your higher-ticket items like furniture, I feel like most people who are in the market for a large piece want to see it/sit on it in person. I am of that school.

As far as lower-priced items, you're probably not going to make enough money on those to justify the extra work, know what I mean?

PLEASE don't get me wrong - I would love to see you do this if your heart's in it and if you think you can really make some bank with it and expand your clientelle. Just sort of playing devil's advocate here. And, I can't wait until I'm finally in NC so I can go by your store!

First, (the blog crush part) you are so entertaining! I love to read your blog.

Second, I agree whole heartedly with "Super Frank Anonymous".

Yes! Yes! I would buy from you. Have been meaning to email you about some fab-o lamps you posted a photo of a while back to see if I could buy them and have them shipped. Loved them that much!

I would buy an accent table or char online, sofa notsomuch.

I've bought a lot of furniture online, but it was vintage, and it was by designers I know.

Some of the pieces were rare, and I bought them online because if I wanted them, online was the only way I was going to get them.

Bottom line: They have to be worth it (pedigree or just great beauty).

in this day in age people are prone to buy from whatever source is most accessible due to the fact that the options are endless in terms of sources. i like to buy online so that i can make smarter purchases by lining up all my options and choose carefully.

As a lurker and an admitted house style challenged person, I love your site b/c you often show how to display or use items. I'd definitely shop from you for those reasons but realistically, I'd be in the $100 and less range.

I am in LOVE with that bird ottoman. But for $450, I just wouldn't be able to afford it. I'm a teacher, dude. For $200, with like $50 shipping, I would buy it in a heartbeat. In July. When I can shop again. Again - Teacher=Me.

That's just ONE price for ONE item but you ask, I answer.

Again - I LOVE THAT BIRD OTTOMAN.

I would definitely check your site obsessively and bother my husband about it, if that helps any.

Need your pillows ASAP! I would love it if you had an online store!

If I had $550 for an ottoman, I would ABSOLUTELY buy it from you!
Otherwise... for this (temporarily) poor gal, I'll probably be buying pillows and trinkets. But yes... online store please. Some of us (CA - HOLLA!) don't live so close to the Carolinas.

I'm in Toronto, Canada and would definitely shop at your online store, provided you will ship to Canada. You have excellent taste and your pieces are unique so I hope that you do decide on opening an online store. It will undoubtedly be a success!

I have been shopping online for A LONG TIME. I buy everything from clothing, furniture, and even fruit trees! If the item is right, I don't worry about shipping...especially if it is unique. BTW - I would love to be able to buy some cute and intersting fabrics that I can not get w/out a designer purchasing them for me.

I'm late to chiming in but, yes, please open an online store. I love your aesthetic but live in CA. I already buy online and would definitely be interested in furniture as well as accessories.

liz winslow said...

Yes! Like everyone else is saying, esp lamps, pillows, accessories. And really, the rates you charge are far cheaper than anything remotely comparable to be found in the NY metro area. You were mentioned in the NYT at least once (that's how I found your site); maybe you could hook up with the NYT, or Patricia Marx of The New Yorker, once the store is up and running, for some great press?

Tiny delights! Little luxuries, photos, accessories, pillows, etc.

I'm a poor soon-to-be college grad, so I can't afford real furniture at this point, but some under $40 tiny things that could make me feel like a Real Grown Up, with fabulous taste to boot? Yes, please!

In the meantime, I'll be home (Cary!) for the holidays, so you can expect to see my brightshiningface in oh, six months or so?

if pieces were online with prices, i'd most definitely consider making roadtrips to raleigh to purchase the perfect chair/armoir/whatev in person! abso-fuckin-lutely!

O.K. I'm late to post on this(what else is new?)
Here's my two cents. Larger items, I'll agree, are a shipping nightmare. Smaller items cash cow. Fabrics are great as are Fab lamp shades made with same. Lamp shades can make er break and they're a bitch to find, especially for chandeliers. Sure you can find them, but they're super expensive. We're talking 1/8 of a yard and fabric and 8 oz. of metal people. You have remarkable flair, we're counting on you. Lampshades are cheap to ship (and return). And let's face it they're like shoes and who doesn't want another great pair of shoes?
