denim is the new...?

By 8/20/2009

often i'll look to outfits for decorating inspiration.

yesterday i was blanking out, so i looked down to see what i was wearing. loud patterned kimono, ripped up jeans, crocodile sandals with a touch of gold on the buckle.

so hmm, i think... this could be a room. but what's the denim - where's it go?

looking at it less literally, what are the jeans of your room? the tried and true piece you can pair with anything. play up, or dress down - your go to for any occasion or look. your basic starter...

denim window panels? er, no.

what's your perfect jeans item in a room?

and FYI, these are fabulous and i want them. want want want.

  2. I think great jeans are akin to a beautiful upholstered linen sofa. Can be funky, can be traditional, can be skewed toward modern. The backdrop, if you will.

That being said, love the matchstick jeans. Unfortunately, I do not resemble a matchstick in the least. More like a drumstick.

  3. In my house, the jean-like building block would theoretically be a huge seagrass rug and realistically be black Billy bookcases.

Those matchstick cords make me really wish it was fall... I'm starting to get all twitchy, needing to buy pumpkin scented candles.

  4. An old leather arm chair and a pile of books.

  5. I think the "Demin" of a room is that one special club chair, or the classic shape couch with multiple slip covers. But a demin couch would be gross...so instead, could you take the color que from the wash of your denim, and play with a palatte of color and texture that compliment it?

  6. The denim of my living room would have to be my rectangular, wooden coffee table and stacked books. I can switch the colors of the room and everything in it and my coffee table would still hold its own!

  7. two ethan allen coffee bean-colored under-sized leather chairs with smallish, almost mini-ottomans.

btw, 2 year-old and 4 year-old have not been able to leave a scratch mark or stain on the things in four years despite daily efforts. it has become a challenge for them. score them 0, me 1.

  8. I have a recurring fantasy that I win a contest and I'm giving 5 minutes and a shopping cart to grab everything I can in a J Crew store (kind of like they had in Toys R Us when I was young).

And I think I would have to grab me a pair of those cords. Or twelve...

  9. I tried on the cords at J Crew today, with every intention of buying them, and they were so tight (even in size 27, which is a size larger than I normally wear) that I couldn't even get my leg in! So disappointed!

  10. I tried on those J Crew cords too. twice actually. I was hoping that the first time they didn't fit was a fluke. Then I went up a size, and then up another size. NONE OF THEM FIT! Though in my defense, when I got a size that comfortably fastened around the waist (two sizes up) they were all baggy looking in the crotch. J Crew FAIL!
