are you not entertained!?

By 7/27/2009

well hey there. i'm back.
everything went swimmingly. full report coming soon.

in the meantime, does every magazine being published right now SUCK or what?

i tried capturing my attention with at least NINE different magazines while i was gone and NOTHING.
traditional home, dwell, us weekly, elle, metropolitan home, marie claire...

i could not find a single article in any of these that interested me in the least. or good pictures. they're all going to go bust if the bar gets any lower...

please jesus let michelle adams' new endeavor, lonny magazine, entertain me.

  1. will an online magazine be as good though? i ask you jamie! no online magazine will ever be as pleasurable as lounging in my bed and leafing through the pages of a good magazine.
i agree though- the publications out there now suck ass. even everyone's new favorite House Beautiful. i feel HB has hits but it also has misses. big, fat traditional, charlotte moss misses. big, fat ina garten copycat kitchen misses. where's ruthie? where's miles? where's dara CARPINGNRIEOeWOE or whatever the fuck hername is? GIVE US US FREE!!!!!! (amistad people, amistad!)

  3. 1: you're right. Online will never be the same as real velveteen eared mags. But there's no hope on the horizon so I'm just grasping for anything...

2: you're right. Hb ain't that great. But nothing else is either. You have to buy like 8 $4.99 mags to get what you used to get out of Dominos left tit in interesting content. Hb has 1.6 features per mag that excite me. No more no less.

  4. I gotta say: give the granny mag Better Homes & Gardens a chance. Granny gives me her old issues and the crap in there is not crappy. Check it out.

  5. After Domino and Cottage Living were canceled (*sob*) my wonderful husband got me a subscription to Metropolitan Home to cheer me up. Last month was OK, but this month it's awful. Totally uninspiring. I can't believe that mag survives while the others died. How is that possible??? At least I have Design Star to watch this summer...

  6. Hey I think we have some good news. There is going to be a new magazine with former editors of all the gone magazines. I caught this on Liz Demo's blog at @ home. Check it out as it surely brightened up my day.

  7. Sounds weird but I am loving Garden and Gun. The home decor is blah but the articles are awesome. Who knew there was so much drama involved in harvesting Tupelo honey? Check it out!

  8. I've been buying Canadian House & Home and Living Etc. since just before Domino went under. I'm finding them somewhat more satisfying than the American alternatives. And H&H, in particular, seems infinitely more accessible than Met Home, Dwell, etc. While there's something to be said about purely inspirational design, I like seeing something I can attempt to achieve without a blood sacrifice.

  9. No kidding - US home decor mags suck - I bought some from the UK at B&N the other week and feel fulfilled...ah...

  10. i still read martha stewart living for my beautiful interiors/exteriors fix. they are not domino...heck, they are not even a shelter mag... but they have such amazing photography, and there's always at least a fun dinner party to gape at and aspire to, design wise (and food-wise). it's been tiding me over till something better emerges, anyway...

  11. I'm totally looking at old Domino Magazines that are lying around... but I do give the House Beautiful March issue some credit.. It was in no way a let down for me. I've gone back to it several times. Though its not very likely that I'm gonna lacquer my walls, I love to see pictures when Miles Redd does it.

I think the ladies that are going to Barnes & Noble for the international publications have the right idea...
