i'm not mad, but....

By 3/17/2008

well, i sort of am. and here's why.

there are few things that really truly make me happy. like sigh, collapse in a chair, light a candle, enjoy life happy.

one of those things is reading domino magazine.

so when i look at blogs, on march 17th, and see the april issue of domino plastered everyfreakingwhere, it makes me sad.

i'd like to think every person deserves to flip each page in their very own personal issue, and have their own totally unique, unadulterated experience viewing the magazine.

every time i go to a blog and see drew barrymore's house splattered on the screen, or one of the top 10 new designers profiles, i shriek a little and spastically scroll down so that i can try and keep my one tiny little moment of happiness intact. i don't want to have to do this.

i mean really -- its the 17th. give it a few days. let me get mine. whlist you enjoy yours for a few more days privately.
blog about something else for a few days, form some opinions on the new issue. sit with it. think on it. and then, by all means, you can scan the entire magazine front to back and post every single bit of it. vomit it all up for everyone to reread.

just a few days. that's all i ask.

  1. I agree, Jamie, but I think that they are just taking pages from the Domino website, not scanning them in from their own already-delivered issue. It does kinds take a little of the fun out of it, huh?

  2. I can't believe how many blogs I clicked on today with the Drew cover. I wish people could be a little more original than copying pages and pages of magazines that are widely available at any decent bookstore.

Some of my favourite blogs, like yours, introduce me to ideas and decor that I would not otherwise have known. I especially like learning about regional shops.

  3. @Sucker -- No! People also write about the stories, scan whole spreads... -- it's maddening. Last month, when my issue finally came, I felt like I had already seen everything in the magazine. I totally agree, Jamie. It's just not sporting to post before the 25th.

I was beginning to think I was the only one bothered by this.

  4. I feel your pain and want to respond. Yesterday morning, I saw the Behind the Scenes photo gallery of the Drew shoot on the Domino website and decided to post two photos and a link to them since they were available to everyone. I then received an email from the Domino PR team that included a PDF of the entire Drew article from the magazine. I was excited to see it but there was no way I was going to post them and ruin it for everyone. I was also disappointed to see them plastered everywhere. I'm sure they meant well but I agree that blogging should be about original and interesting ideas and content as much as possible. It will be interesting to see what happens from here.

  5. A-freaking-MEN, sister. I was just thinking this morning, “If I see Drew Barrymore’s chic office one more time today, I will scream!” I was beginning to think that this was all April’s issue was. Seriously. And yes, hasn’t arrived in the mailbox yet, so I am so not feeling the usual excitement I get looking forward to it. It may just get shelved for a few days before I dig into it. But I am so glad someone else felt the same way and blogged about it :)

  6. grrr. where is my damn domino? i swear it is always late. is it because i live in new orleans? still post-katrina mail delays? and drew barrymore (who some people say i look like--i know, pretty funny). i'm always insulted that it always arrives on the newsstand BEFORE it gets to my house and im a CHARTER subscriber. from the very first issue...did i say grrr?

  7. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/19/AR2008031901008.html

  8. I love it when people post any part of the magazine because Domino's distribution takes forever and a month to deliver it to my house.

As annoying as it is to see it on blogs (and I was one who posted photos already available on Dom's website) the truth is, I get way more pissed when I see it on the newsstand and it hasn't arrived at my house yet, and won't for days.

(Insert photo of Sinead O'Connor holding up photo of Pope/postal service saying, "Fight the real enemy!" here...)

Jamie - because I love you, I will stop posting preview photos of future issues.

  9. post away if you must. i have mastered the quick scroll down, avoid eye contact.

i got it last night. her office wasn't that great. take that drew.

but there was other great stuff - like the kelly green kitchen. yum.

  10. I feel almost as much pain seeing a picture of Ivanka Trump's apartment for the THIRTEENTH time....

  11. it seemed -- at least by the language in some of the drew posts -- that domino sent out the photos to a select number of decor bloggers. i can only assume they're trying to build buzz -- and everyone seemed to take the bait.

in the end, it kind of backfired... at least for the bloggers. domino got a ton of press, but the bloggers all looked a little dumb for having the *exact same post* on nearly every major decor blog.

  12. I had the exact same feeling seeing Drew's office everywhere. It's cute, sure...but worth all this buzz.

Love your blog, by the way!
