pink fiasco

on saturday, i spent 3984 million back-breaking hours painting the guest room Cotton Candy.
i did the trim, i taped off the ceiling, everything.

but, there were a few spots that needed touching up, so i go back to lowes on sunday and get more Cotton Candy.

i get home, do all the touch up, and go over the walls one quick time just to make sure i got everything, then it dries.

its now pink chintz.

lowes gave me pink chintz instead of cotton candy.

so, i had to go back and repaint the ENTIRE room. trim and all.

this took almost all of sunday.

i thought i would die on monday. my shoulders hurt, my thighs hurt, i still have paint in my hair.
painting sucks.

papered switch plates

neat idea!

Cover with extra-wide ribbon, wallpaper, sheet music, or map of a favorite place. Trace switch plate onto back of paper. Cut paper about 1/4 inch wider than outline; brush craft glue onto back; place switch plate face-down. Cut each corner at an angle slightly beyond corner of plate. Fold sides onto back of plate, using bone folder to smooth. With utility knife, cut X into paper covering switch cutout; brush glue onto flaps; smooth to plate's back side. Make tiny X in paper covering screw holes. Turn over. Dab glue into holes. Use pin tip to push paper from front to back, opening holes. (When mounted, the screws will hide minor imperfections.) Seal paper with water-based urethane, fabric with Scotchgard.

a couple of my friends are going to the beach with me next weekend. i asked anna what we'd do. she quickly replied,

"we will think positive thoughts and have lovely weather. we will have lots of fun. we will eat yummy mexican food and drink margaritas. but we will not be hungover. we will shop and find cute things. we will look like supermodels in our bathing suits. we will gossip...i mean "discuss" lots of pertinent things. we will have lots of fun magazines to share. we will have extra large colorful beach towels and sun hats. we will wear spf 30 to protect our radiant skin. we will laugh a lot. we will build a sand castle. we will take lots of adorable pics and post them on myspace so everyone will be jealous of our beach trip. we will attract the attention of lots of hot men, but then crush their hopes when they find out we're all taken :) ummm....what else?"

For the cake:
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/4 tsp. salt
20 Tbs. (2 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
2 cups granulated sugar
5 eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups milk

For the simple buttercream:
7 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
16 Tbs. (2 sticks) unsalted butter
7 Tbs. milk, plus more as needed
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. salt
Pink food coloring as needed
Green food coloring as needed
